Heathfield is a unique school – the only small, all girls, full boarding school in England. Founded in 1899, originally to educate  daughters of the upper classes, over the years it has been home to young ladies from some of the world’s best known families, including daughters of royalty.  Heathfield is now a school which combines tradition with twenty first century education and facilities. Many past pupils become highflying business women, lawyers or academics, are artists and designers or work in journalism, theatre and film.

English with Style 2012


Heathfield is now sharing the expertise that has helped create the self-confidence and charm of these young women. English with Style has been designed for girls to learn more about modern manners, behaviour and style while developing their fluency in English. We aim to help raise girls’ self-esteem and contribute to their personal development in preparation for the adult world.


English with Style costs £1075 per week including all lessons, workshops and activities, airport transfers,
accommodation, meals and travel insurance. We pay 10% commission on this course. The course begins on the evening of Saturday 28 th July and departures are on Saturday August 4
 This is the final week of the International Summer School 4 week course. Attending one or more weeks of General English and Activities before the course is obligatory. Places are strictly limited so early booking is advised. Courses and workshops will be taught by Heathfield teachers and outside professional tutors.

English Tuition

The course includes 15 hours of English – General English in classroom lessons and special groups. All other activities will be aimed at improving girls’ understanding and use of English in everyday situations and in interviews.  Students must have a spoken level of English that is Intermediate or higher -  B2 on the Common European Framework, 5 plus on IELTS or  Cambridge First Certificate level. If a student is booked on the course and her English is not of the correct level, we reserve the right to keep her in the General English course and no refund of the difference in fees will be made.

In Ayurveda, hair is considered to be a byproduct of bone formation. The tissue responsible for building bones are also responsible for the growth of hair. Ayurveda doctors believe that early hair loss is related to body type and the balance of the mind-body constitution (doshas). Pitta individuals, and those who have excess pitta in their system, are likely to lose their hair early in life, or have prematurely thin or gray hair. Excess pitta in the sebaceous gland, at the root of the hair, or folliculitis can make the person start losing hair.

The Make Up of Hair

The scalp is populated by thousands of individual hairs, which sit in follicles under the skin. Male Pattern Hair Loss changes the way hair grows. The affected hairs become smaller, finer and lighter in colour. Eventually some hairs become too thin and light to see.

Normal Hair Growth 

There are three stages in a hair's growth cycle and the thousands of different hair follicles in the scalp are at different stages at any one time.

1. Anagen Stage (growth)
 The new hair grows from the base of the follicle. This growth phase usually lasts for a number of years and results in a full-grown hair.
2. Catagen Stage (resting)
During this stage the hair stops growing and the hair root shrinks. The base of the follicle breaks down and the hair moves upward in the follicle, away from the root and the blood vessel supplying it with nutrients.
3. Telogen Stage (re-growth)
The mature hair is now only loosely anchored to the hair root.
It usually falls out after a few months or is pushed out by the next hair growing up below it.


The causes for these hair conditions are:

• Excess of Pitta dosha in the body is the chief cause of hair problems. Pitta is increased by excessive intake of tea, coffee, alcohol, meats and excessive smoking. Pitta is also aggravated by eating too much fried, oily, greasy, spicy, sour, and acidic foods.

• Intake of too many chemical medicines, low blood circulation, anemia, general weakness after disease, stress, anxiety, and mental tension are also prime causes of hair loss.

• Chronic diseases like typhoid fever, presence of dandruff or lice and hormonal imbalance also cause hair loss.

COMMON TYPES OF HAIR LOSS

Androgenetic Alopecia -
This is generally recognized as the most common hair loss cause and may be responsible for over 95% of pattern hair loss for both men and women. It is usually associated with ageing and develops in predictable stages over varying periods of time.
Alopecia Areata -
This is an immune system disorder which causes follicles to stop producing hairs usually in patches on the head. In some cases alopecia areata can advance to the stage where all hair on the head is lost (alopecia totalis) or there is a complete absence of body hair (alopecia universalis).
Telogen Effluvium -
This hair loss cause is typified by a slowing of new hair growth following a major stress inducing incident or event. This is followed by the delayed shedding of hair with the result that more follicles than normal enter the resting stage causing excessive numbers of those follicles to eventually shed hair at the same time.

Mechanism of hair fall:

The rate of hair shedding in androgenic alopecia is speeded up by three forces: advancing age, an inherited tendency to bald early, and an over abundance of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) within the hair follicle. DHT is a highly active form of testosterone, which influences many aspects of manly behavior, from sex drive to aggression.

How DHT Affects Normal Hair Growth

Inside the follicle are, among other things, red blood cells and hormones. There is also an enzyme called 5 Alpha Reductase, which is capable of converting testosterone to another hormone called DHT, or dihydrotesterone.

BEAUTY TIP – FOR HAIR CARE
 
• Boil coconut oil with the juices of curry leaves, basil, hibiscus flower and gooseberry. Massage the scalp, keep it for sometime and rinse.

• Boil Neem leaves in water. Cool, strain and rinse hair with it.

• For removal of dandruff apply a paste of fenugreek and mustard to the scalp.

Natalie Brady knows this better than most.“I used to specialize in cuts,” Natalie explains, “but then in 2004 I found out I had a real knack for doing hair extensions and changed gears entirely. Since there’s a huge demand for high-quality extensions, I saw an opportunity to start my own business.” “And I saw dollar signs,” adds Franky, Natalie’s husband. “The demographics in our part of Florida were very supportive of a hair extension salon. With Natalie’s incredible talent and my moral support, there was nothing to stop us.” The couple rented a 12x12 room in the back of another salon and set a goal of getting one new client per week. “Franky was my assistant,” Natalie recalls. “It would be an understatement to say we started small and built Florida Hair Extensions from the ground up. But we knew the interest was there – we just needed a way to capture it.”

Letting their hair down

“Franky was great at handing me hairpins and sweeping up hair, but I felt his talents could be put to better use,” Natalie continues. “So I hired another stylist and had Franky work on our website. Then I told him to explore online advertising.” “I don’t mean to split hairs,” Franky says, drawing quotation marks in the air, “but I believe that was my idea. After I built the site, I moved some of our advertising budget to Google AdWords™ as an experiment. I had a hunch people in the area were searching online for hair extensions. I was right. As soon as we turned on our ads, four clients a month became twelve a month.” Encouraged by the results, Franky moved the salon’s entire advertising budget online and increased his AdWords spend from $30 to $150 a day. “I got more out of my AdWords campaign than from all the money I was spending on other forms of advertising. We got so much business that we had to move into a 1,600-square foot space.”

With every new extension, the Bradys’ salon empire is growing. They now employ 26 stylists and recently began using AdWords to promote new locations in Houston and Las Vegas. “Our business grew 425 percent from 2005 to 2006,” Franky reports. “I would attribute about 75 percent of that growth to AdWords. As you can guess, it’s earned me a lot of points with my dear wife.” “Well, he did try one other advertising method that worked just as well,” Natalie clarifies. “He got a guy on stilts wearing a huge ’80s-style wig to stand outside our door. That got us lots of attention – but it’s not the kind of thing you do every day. I told him to stick with AdWords.”

Things Required: 

Wavy/Curly Hair. Provided your hair is straight, get yourself a curling iron. You would also need some styling gel, bobby pins, brooch/hairband/any other sort of hair accessories.

How To:  

Try and sweep your hair to a single side to start off with. Once done, pin the opposite side up. Apply some styling gel for it to stay as it is. Now, you can just leave that hair as it is or goof around with it. I would prefer goofing around. So yeah, here’s what you can do

A Curly Bun

 For a girl with medium to long hair, a curly bun is elegant and sophisticated. To achieve, pull the hair back into a neat, high ponytail. Split the ponytail into 1 inch sections, using a curling iron to curl each section. Using pins, pin the curls around the base of the ponytail until it is completely covered along the top, bottoms and sides. Faux  flowers or pretty pins can be placed in and around the bun to add more interest to the style.

  

Curly Ponytails

To create this style, curl your child's shoulder-length or longer hair using a curling iron or hot rollers.
